Honestly, i had never herd of taekwondo before. When my brothers started, I thought i would have a go.

When and where did you start training and how old were you?

I started training at North Bridge Leisure Centre, Halifax at the age of 11 in June 2001, but as i realised that the club couldn’t offer me what i wanted i moved to Team Taekwondo under Phillip Payne when i was about 13 years old.

My short term goal is to pass my 2nd Dan. My long term goals and ambitions are to one day pass my 4th Dan and to medal at the British Nationals and an A class international competition.

I have two, Aaron cook and Levent Tuncat who I had the honour of fighting at the Trelleborg Open 2009 in Sweden.

What made you choose Taekwondo over other martial arts and sports?

Well, to be honest I had never heard of Taekwondo. My uncle and most of my family took part in the sport before I started. My uncle used to teach me the moves and I decided to have a go. I have always have been really sporty and wanted to try something different. As all my free time is now spent on Taekwondo, I don’t have time for other sports.

When and where did you start training and how old were you?

I started training at the age of 11 with Phillip Payne and have been with Team Taekwondo since 2004.

What is your favourite technique?

Has got to be axe kick :D

Who have been the most influential people in your life?

My family, friends and my coach Phillip Payne.

What have been the most memorable moments in your competition career and why?

Winning my division at the British National Championships in December 2007 - the feeling when I had to get up in front of everyone and collect my medal was amazing and nothing has come close to that feeling yet. Getting silver in Germany in February 2007 was also an amazing experience. Fighting people from different countries provided me with my first taste of international competitions.
In November 2008 I made my return to Taekwondo after a year’s break. The break was just what I needed to regain my focus. Since my return I have taken part in four competitions. I am on a winning streak at the moment and I am unbeaten in my last four competitions. After beating my first opponent on my return to competitions I felt really good and I am very happy to be back.
On the 25 th January 2009, I beat one of the best players in my weight group. This has given me the self belief and motivation I need to push myself further.

What are your martial art goals and ambitions?

My immediate goal is to pass my Red Belt so I can compete in the Advanced category at the British National Championships. I would also like to use my axe kick more in future competitions. With the new rule changes giving three points for a head kick, I know this is going to be a strong technique for me in the future.
My longer term goals are to pass my Black Belt and become the best player in my group. Hopefully this will give me the opportunity to prove that I am worthy of a place on the British Team.

Who is you favourite player?

I have a few players who I look up to. Sarah Stevenson has achieved so much in such a short space of time and inspiration players of all ages. Aaron Cook and Tyrone Robinson have amazing power and speed. I think their natural talented but appreciate how much work they had to put in to get where they are today.

Do you have any other interests or hobbies outside of Taekwondo?

Yes, I like to go out with my friends, running and I love music, it is amazing!!
